To preserve and protect the unique character of Montana, our footprint upon these lands is light.
Montana's heritage begins with the nomadic Cheyenne, Cree, Dakota, Sioux and Shoshone tribes who followed bison and elk across the plains and into the mountains as the seasons turned. Next Europeans settlers built cowboy culture and a way of life that revolved around cattle, horses and ranches. Today, the land is largely unspoiled but changing.
The Ranches Conservancy celebrate all of Montana's traditions and seeks to set aside 80% of our lands for conservation. In addition, our private Wilderness Outpost borders the great Lewis & Clark National Forest. Over 1.8 million acres will never be developed under national stewardship.
It's also our honor and obligation to teach conservation and stewardship to our children. Western Kids programs and activities focus on nature and cultural awareness as much as fun.
